A 54-year-old Maryland man has been charged with the fatal stabbing of his 80-year-old mother.
The Prince George’s County Police Department says Darrick Alston stabbed Brenda Wheeler at her home in Cheverly on Tuesday morning. Alston was taken into custody at the scene.
The department said the two had been arguing before the stabbing.
Alston has been charged with first and second degree murder and is being held without bond.
Court documents say Alston called 911 and said he thought he may have seriously hurt his mother, WAVY reports. He told police he stabbed Wheeler multiple times, and after his knife broke, he went downstairs and got two more to continue stabbing her.
Detectives said they recovered the knives and the broken handle at the scene.
Alton makes his first court appearance on Thursday afternoon.
