The body of a long haul trucker who went missing after a rest stop on the central coast of Florida has been found in Georgia.
Alejandro Jacomino Gonzalez picked up a load of cars from the Port of Brunswick in Georgia on April 16, according to the FBI. He was last seen early the next morning at a rest stop along Interstate 95 in south Brevard County as he was traveling to Miami to deliver the vehicles.
He never made it to his destination, and his truck was later found back in Georgia — in Port Wentworth, a few miles northeast of Savannah — with several cars missing from the hauler.
The FBI offices in Tampa and Atlanta opened an investigation, and the FBI announced on Wednesday that Gonzalez’s body had been found in coastal Georgia. They did not specify where in coastal Georgia, which stretches about 100 miles from South Carolina to Florida. Authorities also did not release a cause of death.
The route from Brunswick to Miami is a common one used by long-haul truckers. Gonzalez had traveled about 250 miles south to Grant-Valkaria, Florida, where he was last seen, with another 170 miles to go to Miami. His truck was found abandoned more than 300 miles back north in Port Wentworth, Georgia.
