Virginia woman missing after behavioral health facility reportedly transported her to Charlottesville without phone, ID or money

A Virginia woman has been reported missing after her family says they learned she had been discharged from a behavioral health facility and transported to Charlottesville more than a month earlier without her phone, identification or access to money.

Anna Sophia Kissler was reported missing on September 28 after her family learned that she had been transported from a behavioral health facility in Petersburg to the Salvation Army in Charlottesville on August 24.

According to her family, Kissler had been admitted to the Petersburg facility around the second week of August for evaluation and treatment related to severe anxiety. Her family said they intentionally gave her space and privacy while she worked with her treatment team and were waiting to hear from her case manager about bringing her belongings to the facility.

Those belongings — including Kissler’s cellphone, identification and debit card — remained with her family.

The family told Missing Pieces Network that they later learned that Anna had been discharged on August 24 and transported by a Medicaid transportation service to the parking lot of the Salvation Army in Charlottesville, approximately 70 miles from Petersburg.

Kissler reportedly has no known ties to Charlottesville.

Her family said they were not notified by her case manager before the discharge and spent considerable time working to determine what had happened to her before confirming that she had been taken to Charlottesville.

Kissler’s whereabouts after arriving at the Salvation Army remain unknown.

Her family is now asking anyone who was in the Charlottesville area on or after August 24 to think back and consider whether they may have encountered her. They are particularly interested in possible sightings at shelters, hospitals, libraries, churches, restaurants, stores, bus stops and other locations where Kissler may have sought assistance.

Even an older sighting could help investigators establish a timeline of Kissler’s movements after she arrived in Charlottesville.

Kissler is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and approximately 140 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. She has a small black bear tattoo on her left shoulder.

Anyone with information about Kissler’s whereabouts or who believes they may have seen her is asked to contact the Charlottesville Police Department at 434-977-9041.
