A 40-year-old man accused of kidnapping his daughter, killing her mother, and fleeing California has been apprehended in Mexico, police say.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, authorities arrested Ruben Fregoso over the weekend, and found his daughter, 5-year-old Daleza Fregoso, safe.
As CriminalEnterprise reported, Daleza was last seen May 24 near Alsace Avenue and Ferndale Street in Los Angeles, at around 4 a.m.
On May 25, police found Fregoso’s a 2019 Land Rover Discovery inside the parking garage, located at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, on the Mexico border.
On May 26, the Los Angeles Police Department released a statement indicating that authorities the child’s mother, Marisol Garcia Palacios, 36, had been found murdered inside a home in the 2600 block of South Alsace Avenue.
Details on the pair’s exact location in Mexico is currently unknown. Police said the child will be taken to relative in the Los Angeles area while federal and local authorities start Fregoso’s extradition process.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Fregoso is facing charges murder and child abuse charges.
