A drunk man is accused of plowing head-on into a car driven by a 21-year-old woman on her way home from a wedding on a Florida interstate.
Lauren Akey had texted her family a few minutes before the the fatal crash on Interstate 75 in Charlotte County early Sunday morning, WTVT reports. She told family she had just gotten gas and was on her way home.
Dennis Lee Olson, 53, allegedy made a U-turn into oncoming traffic in his Ford F-150 full sized pickup truck. He hit Akey’s vehicle and another, and tests shows his blood alcohol level was almost three times Florida’s limit at .222.
A woman and her 12- and 15-year-old children in the other vehicle were seriously injured. A third vehicle hit debris on the highway after the crash, with minor damage and no injuries.

FDOT traffic cameras showed the truck making the U-turn just after 1 a.m., the station reported.
“This is someone who made a horrible decision, and it cost someone their life and seriously injured three other people,” FHP Trooper Ken Watson said.
Records show that Olson was previously convicted in Minnesota of driving while impaired.
He was ordered held without bond in Charlotte County, charge with vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter.
Akey was planning to be a nurse after graduating college next year.
