Two Utah children were found safe Tuesday night in Felipe, Mexico, in the company of their father.

According to the FBI Salt Lake City, police took the children’s father, Dane Stephen Richman, 46, into custody. He has been charged with two counts of custodial interference.

Saratoga Springs police stated that the search for children, ages 1 and 10 months, was an effort between the FBI, the Utah Department of Public Safety and the Utah County Attorney’s Office.

“A special thanks to the FBI for their efforts and support,” Saratoga Springs police said in a statement. “The investigation is ongoing, and we have no further information to provide at this time.”

As CrimeEnterprise reported, Richman is accused of fleeing the country after missing a a custody deposition Friday. He also failed to show up Saturday to drop the children off with their mother.

Authorities previously stated that Richman had been “seriously depressed, selling possessions,” and “facing financial stress.

Police tracked him to Mexico after learning he had his vehicle serviced in Carlsbad, California, on May 18. Later that day, security footage captured the vehicle crossing the Mexico border.

They also learned that his home had been in foreclosure, and that he sold and/or gave away his possessions.
